About Us |
|
Top Policy is not tied to any one insurance company and as such can give an independent evaluation of the insurance policies available in the market place. We specialise in the life insurance products such as Life Cover, Trauma Insurance, Permanent Disablement Cover, Income Protection, Keyperson Cover and Shareholder/Partnership Protection Insurance. We only promote top quality products, we work with, and are able to quote from, all major insurance companies to put together a complete, high quality package for our clients, which we believe will give them the best cover available in the market place at any one time.
We do not adhere to a ‘machine gun’ approach when recommending products or policies, hoping that one will hit the right target. Every client’s circumstances are different and, as such, we ensure that the product and policy we do recommend is relevant to those circumstances. In other words we tailor make an insurance package for our client’s personal situation.
We are stringent in our research into the products we promote. We study the wordings of all the major policies in the market in relation to the medical conditions they are designed to insure against, comparing the differences between the policies and establishing if the changes made are genuine improvements from the client’s perspective.
We do not quote meaningless percentages, gleaned from overseas ratings software companies, as justification for our recommendations. We believe it important that our reports give comprehensive advice in plain English that is relevant to our client’s situation. Our reports provide our clients with the knowledge that allows them to make an informed choice on their insurance cover.
We also internally rate insurance companies on their size, their stability, their ability and, most importantly, their willingness to pay claims. The wording of any policy should not open the way for the insurer to demand endless tests and delays before a client can prove a claim. To cause this extra stress to a client who has suffered a critical conditions is, in our mind, unconscionable.
We pride ourselves on providing a complete service to our clients. We take the time to understand our client’s circumstances then source the most appropriate product for them, hopefully at the most competitive price – but we will not base our recommendations on price alone but on the true quality of the policy wordings. We endeavour to explain clearly the differences between the products and the reasons why we are recommending a particular policy or insurer. Once the cover is placed, we continually review the situation and the products available to ensure our clients always have the best cover for them. If there is a claim, we will deal with the insurance company on behalf of the client and follow the claims process through to ensure payment is made without any unnecessary delays.

JOHN WATT - PRINCIPAL
All policies are largely dependent on the quality of their definitions and even small differences can in fact impact largely on the benefits the policyholders will receive, particularly in Trauma, Permanent Disablement and Medical insurance. The bottom line is that the wording of the policy document is of the utmost importance to both the Insured and the Insurer.
Over the last ten years John had been involved, on a consultancy basis, with four major insurance companies, working as an independent consultant on the updating and enhancements to their Trauma products.
He has consulted with Dr Eric Thornton, a medical doctor who had a wide career, working in the UK, Gibraltar, Libya and New Zealand and has been invaluable in examining and explaining the language of Trauma and Health policies.
John has an excellent understanding of the underwriting and claims process. As such he can provide an unbiased and independent opinion for his clients.

JANE WATT - MARKETING & RESEARCH
With particular emphasis on trauma cover, Jane researches the true meaning of each medical condition - independently and in liaison with medical professionals. She concentrates on the cause, the symptoms, the likelihood of developing the illness and the treatment available - keeping abreast of any new treatment procedures being developed both in NZ and overseas. This knowledge is extremely important in enabling us to understand the true benefits offered by any particular policy. |
|
Jane conducts the marketing and research for the products we promote. She has a varied background in the medical industry having worked for health providers and medical insurers in the UK and New Zealand. She also spent some years in the advertising and design industry, and has been able to utilise these skills for her role within Top Policy.
Carrying out in-depth research is part of her make-up and her attention to detail is meticulous. (As a part-time writer of historical novels the ability to sift through conflicting information to reach the facts is of the utmost importance.)
